Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

There is no need for special clothing for yoga. Anything that feels comfortable such as shorts or tracksuit pants and a t-shirt.

What equipment do I need?

Some people like to use a yoga mat, but you really don’t need one. You can either practice in a chair or any free space in your house or enough space on the floor to stretch arms up, down, and out to the sides.

What technology do I need?

If you want me to be able to see you, a camera on your phone, ipad, or other device is helpful.

Make sure your device has a speaker so that you can hear me.

If you would like to be able to be heard, check that your device has a microphone.

All offerings are delivered via zoom which is an online meeting platform. If you haven’t used zoom before, there is no need to sign up for an account. Your booking confirmation email will contain a link to the meeting. All you need to do is click and you will automatically join. Here’s some more info on zoom.

What style of yoga do you teach?

The style of yoga is classical, and sometimes referred to as ‘viniyoga’. Classes integrate breath with movement, and include mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation.

Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?

No! Classical yoga focuses on breath, and any movement you engage in is always centred on your body, your needs, and your choices.

What can I expect in an online class?

People usually join class 5-10 minutes early to chat with each other and ask questions. There is a real sense of community amongst the students. You then choose a position to begin the class - most people either sit in a chair or lay down on the floor. You’ll be asked to check in with yourself to notice how you are feeling in body and mind. This provides you with information on what choices you might make throughout the practice. We then do a breath practice, followed by movement, and end with meditation or relaxation. Every step of the way, you are in charge of what you feel like doing and not doing.

Why do you teach online?

Online yoga provides accessibility, convenience, and comfort to students. I know how difficult it is to find time to drive to a yoga studio, find a space you feel comfortable in, and then get back to your responsibilities at the end of a class. People have told me how wonderful it is to be able to practice in their bedroom or loungeroom as part of their morning ritual or bedtime routine. You won’t miss out on any of the benefits of in-person yoga. Throughout the class, I watch each student and provide suggestions and tips for making sure you are practising safely.
